As our event continues to grow we couldn't do it without the help of volunteers. With 1000's of ducks to handle, wash, towel dry, sort, count and pack, the more people helping, the faster we can get those ducks back into their happy little homes. Many hands make light work!!!! Contact us and let us know if you would like to Volunteer.
Send us an email if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Participants must be 18 years or older to purchase ducks. Winners will need to show a current ID card showing proof of their age.
Each participating organization will earn 50% profit for each duck they adopt out. That money will be used to support their mission. The remaining funds will cover administration costs such as our website, advertising and mailings, the purchase of new ducks, and a small percentage will go to the Class of 2025 and the Sons of the American Legion #583
The ducks are gathered from the river by our vounteers. Each one is given a bath and towel dried. Then the sorting of the ducks begins. Each duck is accounted for, put into it's assigned box and stored away until the next race. Only the 1st place winner gets to keep their duck and that number will then be considered officially retired.
You will not receive a physical duck. Each duck adoption is assigned a numbered certificate that coordinates with a numbered duck. These certificates will be emailed to you so please make sure your email address is correct and allow 1-3 days to receive. Be sure to check you SPAM folder too.
If on the day of the event the weather is deemed too severe or dangerous to race on the river, then the Duck Derby Committee has the right to do a drawring. The winners will be chosen at random in front of our sponsors at the Sons of the American Legion and each winner will be notified by phone.
Winners of the Dexter Duck Derby will be posted on our website and called within 1 hour after the race.
The ducks will be brought out to the starting point by boat and dumped into the water where they will swim their way to the finish line.
If all the ducks have not been adopted by race day, then they will still be available for adoption up to 1 hour before the race is scheduled to start. This allows the Duck Derby Committee to ensure all of the adopted ducks are admitted into the race.
As we continue to grow we hope to be a able to add more non-profit organizations to our event. As with any event the larger it grows the more volunteers needed to make it a success. If you think your organization would be a good fit for the 2025 race, please send us an email and one of our committee members will be in touch.
